New Tax Depreciation Measures For FODDER STORAGE SHEDS
The Federal Government announced new tax depreciation measures for primary producers. It opened the door for farmers and other primary production businesses to claim an immediate tax deduction on fodder storage infrastructure.
For example, the following shed types, when used for fodder storage:
– Hay Sheds
– Grain Sheds
– Silage Sheds
– Sliding Roof Sheds used for stock feed
– Other sheds used for storing other stock feeds
Under the new measures, primary producers may be able to claim the full cost of a fodder storage asset.
* Conditions Apply – Before ordering or otherwise relying on information within this publication, you must seek advice from your own independent advisor on how the tax rulings may apply to your specific circumstances.
What Others Say
“Increased Profits AND Reduced Harvest Pressure”
Andrew & Annette Cass have 3 Grant Sheds Grain Storage Sheds. When they had two, they cycled grain through one of them 3 times and twice through the other, so they put 4000-4500 tonnes of grain in the 2000 tonnes of storage space they had then.
And what did they do…? They invested in a third Grain Shed… this time a 3000 tonne capacity shed… such is their confidence in the high level of benefits to them of storing their grain crop on-farm, in sheds.
Having on-farm grain storage sheds takes the problem out of managing the delivery of grain from the header through to the local delivery point at Viterra or AWB.
There’s a lot of stress and hassle at harvest time. Theres a lot of advantage by storing your grain on your farm.

“Extra $30,000 Pocketed”
Canola stored in Kierans Bulk Grain Shed in April
“I can pick up $30-$40 per tonne with grain stored in it.
Multiply that by 1000 tonnes and its an extra $30,000 pocketed.
I have silos as well but I like having both, each for specific reasons. And certainly the sheds are dual purpose because I can store my machinery in it too. It’s too valuable to leave out in the weather.”

“Money Gains Add Up Quickly”
Dual Purpose Adds Even More Value For their Grain Shed Investment.
The Andersons 15m x 27m x 3.6m GRANT Bulk Grain Shed protects their farm machinery when its not being used for grain storage.
“We’re committed to holding grain over for 3-6 months after harvest because we do always gain because of the price increases.
With a Grain Shed weve actually gained quite a bit of money by holding over the grain when prices are low. It adds up pretty quick.”
